Ashburn is located on the Southwest side of the city. Its boundaries are 75th Street and 87th Street from the North and South respectively. While Western Ave and Cicero frame up the East and West sides of this rectangular shaped neighborhood. It’s just ten miles from the Loop. Close proximity to State Street (…that great street) and the Magnificent Mile.
Like many of the seventy-seven communities in the Chicago area, it has a rich and diverse history of Dutch, Irish, and Swedish immigrants that planted roots at the close of the 19th Century.
The community’s namesake comes from its former occupation as the dumping ground locale for Chicagoans fireplaces. But now, as Chicago has done before, it has transformed into a wonderful suburb with a high percentage of home ownership, schools, parks and greenery.
Plenty of restaurants can be found in and around Ashburn but notables include the Caribbean Jerk Palace and Billy’s Grill. Reviews for the Caribbean Jerk Palace have high praise for their heated menu items (i.e. “Stumbled upon this place about a year ago. Have not found any other place as good as this”). For a good, classic Mom & Pop restaurant, Billy’s is the place serving up breakfast and lunch favorites.
