Andersonville, just a few blocks from the lakefront, is another diverse Chicago neighborhood with a high walk score. It has a long-standing affiliation with the Swedish community and is home to the wonderful Swedish American Museum. Andersonville is made up almost entirely of independent businesses and has a refreshing lack of chain stores. For a really authentic, old-Chicago feel this is the place to go!
Did you know that Andersonville’s famous burger joint Hamburger Mary’s not only makes some of Chicago’s best burgers but also hosts award-winning stage shows at an in-house theatre? Some of my favorite places are Hopleaf Bar (craft beer and best mussels ever) and Hamburger Mary’s for a fantastic burger and in-house theater. Calo Restaurant is wonderful for Italian food and has been family owned since 1963 – I particularly recommend the fresh fish and amazing ribs. There’s also a wonderfully calming vibe and many pretty articles to be found in Martha Mae: Art Supplies & Beautiful Things. If you’re looking for more information on the Andersonville neighborhood, or a realtor to guide you through the various real estate options the area provides, I’d love to talk with you!
