Possibly one of Chicago’s newest residential communities, the South Loop has become one of the city’s hottest and most rapidly developing neighborhoods. Located within walking distance to the Loop, South Loop residents enjoy easy access to the lakefront, Grant Park and the Museum Campus as well as excellent public transportation and roadway access.

Much of the real estate of the South Loop has been built over the past quarter century. Large condominium and apartment buildings border the Museum Campus and the stretch between Roosevelt Road and McCormick Place. However your Realtor can show you many housing options in this neighborhood including converted warehouse lofts, townhouses like those in the popular Dearborn Park community and a handful of single-family homes.

Average condominium prices in the South Loop are $199K and buyers often find great value with proximity to the Loop here. However, condo prices range from close to $100,000 to well over $1 Million. There are limited number of single-family homes in the neighborhood and average prices are currently $1.4 Million. Townhouses are a popular option between those two markets in the South Loop and average prices are near $500,000

Despite the youth of much of its real estate, the South Loop enjoys many nearby amenities. Soldier Field and Grant Park need no introduction but the South Loop offers much more. Cultural options include the Museum Campus and city treasures: the Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium. Meigs Field was a former airfield that has been transformed into another great city park on Northerly Island which houses a marina and the FirstMerit Bank Pavilion and its summer concerts.

While the great shopping of Street Street is only a short stroll the north, the South Loop offers many local options for dining and retail including the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant which was built as an actual fire station in 1905 to service the homes of famous Chicagoans such as the McCormicks and Fields. In addition to local retailers, major chains such a Trader Joes, Marianos’ and Target are popular in the neighborhood and the Icon Theatre on Roosevelt road is arguably the best first-run movie theatre in the city.
